Edward M. Ackerman was the general partner and portfolio manager of Ackerman Associates, L.P. Dallas' first hedge fund, from 1969-2007.  Before forming Ackerman Associates, he was the Dallas Regional Manager for Salomon Brothers.  He has served as Vice-Chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas and as a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Permanent Fund at the University of Texas.   In addition, he served on the Investment Committees of The Hockaday School and the Southwestern Medical Foundation.  He was a graduate of the University of Texas, with post graduate study at New York University.  He was a long time member of the CFA Institute of Dallas-Fort Worth.  

Investment Professionals

David B. Ackerman is the managing principal and director of investment strategy. He joined Ackerman Associates, L.P. (now Ackerman Capital Management) in 1992.  David has held the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation since 1995 and is a Past President of the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth.  He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and a member of the Financial Planning Association. He has been voted by other investment professionals in D Magazine as one of the best wealth managers in Dallas. David is a Trustee of the St. Mark’s School of Texas and former Chairman of the Investment Committee. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance and the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas. David graduated from Duke University with Bachelor's degrees in both Political Science and Economics.

Johnny M. Hea is the director of portfolio management and trading at Ackerman Capital Management and joined the firm in 2010. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth. Previously Johnny served as a principal for Global Investment Management and Manager Research at Annandale Capital in Dallas. Prior to that he served as a portfolio manager and equity analyst at Martin & Co. in Knoxville, TN. He received a B.A. from the University of Arkansas and an M.B.A from the University of North Texas.

C. Keller Reid is the director of trading and technology at Ackerman Capital Management. He joined the firm from Apex Clearing where he was Vice President, Head of Execution Sales and Strategy. Previous positions at Apex (via acquisition of Penson) include Head of Execution Services and Trading, and Chief Operating Officer of Penson Execution Services. While at Penson Keller invented an electronic routing algorithm that was granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office in 2011. Keller is a former Director of the Dallas Security Traders Association and a graduate of the Security Industry institute at The Wharton School. Keller holds a B.S. in Social and Decision Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University.

Anne Rushing is the retirement plan services consultant with 15+ years of corporate and non-profit retirement experience at Fidelity Investments and TIAA-CREF.  During her time with these organizations, she worked with large and small institutions focusing on employee engagement, plan design and ERISA compliance.  Anne holds the Chartered Retirement Plan Services (CRPS®) designation, a B.S. Public Relations/Advertising from Texas Christian University and a M.B.A. from the University of Denver.

Client Services & Administration

Brett Speer joined Ackerman Capital Management in 2013 as the director of operations. He previously spent thirteen year at BNP Paribas Prime Brokerage (formerly Banc of America Securities Prime Brokerage), most recently serving as the Operations and Relationship Manager for the Dallas office. Brett holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics for the University of Texas at Arlington.

Meagan Sells joined Ackerman Capital Management in 2006 and is the firm’s director of client service. She previously worked for a Dallas-based investment advisor as head of client services and prior to that was a trading assistant for a boutique institutional brokerage firm/investment bank. She assists in business development and oversees most client services. She also interacts with our custodians on behalf of clients. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Vanderbilt University.

Sari Wilson joined Ackerman Associates in 1973. In her role as office manager, she handles the operational bookkeeping and administration of the firm.

Sophie Bowers joined Ackerman Associates in 1985. She is executive assistant to the office and assists with a variety of client service and administrative functions.
